Turkey, then Chicken, then Salad

Hello all!  I hope this post finds you well.  We have been putting some miles on the ole' travel meter over the past few weeks and wanted to catch you up.

We were delighted when Fritz and Jean asked us to meet them in Istanbul earlier this month for a few days.  Istanbul has been high on my list for years and it didn't disappoint!  We loved the culture, the food, the history...but what a busy, crazy city!

When we told Lucia that we were going to Turkey, she said "Don't we eat Turkey?" "Yes, yes we do."  "Will we go to Chicken and Salad later, too?"  She is getting to be quite the comedian.

The Grand Bizarre with Grandma Jean:  over 4000 stores of ceramics, dresses, Turkish rugs and scarves...so great!

Cucumber street vendor...mmm!

The Blue Mosque

The cistern.  Built underground by the Romans for their drinking water.  A huge architectural feat for that time..or any!

Medusa statue in the cistern

Hagia Sofia

When the Muslims took over the church they rubbed all the faces off the murals.  Now the city is trying to restore the originals.

After a long day of sun and sights

The new mosque from the Bosporus (the body of water that separates Asia and Europe...wow!

Big bread!

Another great trip and more memories for the blog and our minds.  We'd recommend it highly, but in doses...what a wild city!

Until then,

Jaime
