2 years ago today

We boarded the plane for Europe to start this journey!  Can you believe it?    We have laughed, cried and have had the experience of a lifetime.  Lots of planes. Lots of Google Translate.  Lots of eating crap we don't want because we can't read the menu.  Lot of new friends and favorite places, and too many memories to write down if we had ten years to do it.  What a blessing!  Thanks for riding along with us here on the blog.

Take a look at our first blog post from 2010...how young and naive we were!   We still are, to tell you the truth.  :)

Be well all,

Le Trois de Suisse

Let our great European adventure begin!

We set off from the US on August 10th only with what we could carry on our backs, and boarded the plane to destinations unknown.

Okay, okay, it didn't quite go that way.  We sent 5800 pounds worth of stuff via ship, 400 pounds on a plane and schlepped, drug and wheeled six suitcases, a purse, a clinging little girl and a stroller through SeaTac to board the plane on the 10th.  We were ready to give our belongings away at that point.

We left our house on July 27 and went through three hotels, a bachelor party, a Winos sendoff, a brother's wedding, lots of time with family and good friends and boatloads of dirty clothes in overpacked suitcases.  We were so sick of our hotel room and being stacked like cord wood in the tiny hovel we were ready to get on with it by the end.

We were most worried about Lucia on the plane as the time approached to leave, as the last time she was on a plane she was just one and we didn't have to cross 4 continents with 15 hours of flight and airport time, three airports, two trams, and one bus to arrive at our destination.  Oh, and we were moving to another country.  That proved hard to explain to a 2 year old.

We bought games, DVDs, books, treats, and a bunch of stuff we normally wouldn't buy just to do something, anything to keep her occupied for the overnight flight to London.

We pre-boarded the plane (it turns out that parenting a screaming, clinging, homeless toddler has its rewards) and got settled for takeoff.

Lucia fell asleep during takeoff, amazing us both!  We laughed, put a blanket over her and promptly ordered whiskeys for a toast and much needed release.

She slept all the way to our descent into London, woke up like a frequent flyer, and ate breakfast.  When we landed and started going through customs, she informed us that she wanted to go on an airplane again, which made her the only one of us three with that desire.

The trip to Geneva went smoothly:  Lucia looked out the window and read books for the short flight and was a trooper the whole way.

Geneva Airport:  begin again the dragging, sweating, hauling of six suitcases and our new, jet lagged lives to our new home in Geneva.
